Don't listen to Phalanx, He's a douche mouth.
I fix PS2's and have modded both Slim & Original. Sometimes the DVD drive gets "stuck".
My rule of advice (Very Important). * DON'T PLAY CD'S in a PS2 * It fucks up the lasers position. This could be the case with your PS2 or it could be a dusty lens.
First test the drive with a DVD movie. Clean the Game with rubbing alcohol. Also put rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab & GENTLY clean the lens.. If that doesn't work. You're going have to open up the PS2.
Best of luck. Sony makes some SHITTY hardware.
