Well, I just got back from a nice weekend vacation up to Lake Superior and like all of my vacations, it rained about 50% of the time so we watched a few movies in the hotel room... Here's the rundown.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Original)

Well, this has officially joined the ranks of Nosferatu as another silent classic that I just couldn't seem to get into. If I didn't LOVE Metropolis & The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I'd think I just wasn't a fan of silent films, but I guess I just found Dr. Caligari and Nosferatu to be rather boring. I still show these films a certain degree of leniency in grading howeverm just out of respect for what doors they've opened within the genre.

Reno 911: Miami

Yikes! Love the show, hate the movie. Apparently this is only a concept that works in 23 minute doses because this movie just was lacking everything, including plot and a flow of humor. Sure, there were funny parts here or there but not consistently enough to make for an even remotely funny movie.

Night at the Museum

Fairly imaginative script executed in a fairly predictable fashion. This wasn't terrible and it wasn't great. Like so many other films, this falls into the mediocre category.

Smokin' Aces

Well, it was a little slow to get moving, but that was okay because there was an intricate storyline being set up. Once the action hit, it hit hard as members of the all-star cast became corpses one after another. Everything was going great in a very True Romance style, and then they tried to get clever. They twisted the end up and tried to make it shocking when there really was no need for it and in my opinion, ended up detracting quite a bit from the overall entertainment value of the film. It was cool, but it coulda been something awesome and it wasn't.

The Hitcher

With the exception of 1 pretty awesome & unexpected scene , this movie was pretty run of the mill. Nothing impressed me, but nothing was so bad that I feel the need to call it to attention either. It was incredibly... run of the mill.

Saturday the 14th

Cheesy. Stupid. Fun. Low budget PG horror from the 80s. It's not gonna win any awards, but it's fun to watch with friends and laugh at.
