Here's my approximate recipe for fake blood. I've never measured this exactly but from what I remembered (this was a few years ago), this is what I used:

-1 jar Karo brand light corn syrup
-1 jar Karo brand dark corn syrup
-most of a small bottle of McCormick red food dye (the size in the four pack of red, blue, green, yellow)
-about 5 drops of McCormick yellow food dye (if you want darker, more black looking blood add a few drops of blue, though if you add too much it will look purple)
-1 TBSP of flour (for opaqueness), this should be sifted and only a little at a time while mixing throughly otherwise it will be lumpy.

The mixture of different corn syrups (though it looks best to put at least a little dark syrup in with the light) and food dye can vary depending what color blood you are going for, but you always need to put some flour in there otherwise it will be too clear and shiny looking.

A corn syrup base for fake blood is really the best as it drips and splatters well and it's not harmful to the actors.
