Music artists are well-known to get a higher percentage cut from the sales of live performances and merchandising than CD sales anyway. However, the record industry is no doubt counting all those downloads as potential lost sales and wanting THEIR cut of that back. However, this is flawed logic - people will download and listen to something that they would never consider buying. This is like llistening to a song on the radio - lots of people will listen to a song on the radio (and enjoy it) but never consider buying the album. So all these downloads are not necessarily "lost sales"
This singer has had what? songs that have had any sort of mild international popularity. Downloads or not - I wouldn't think she could live off this. NZ is not a big market (nor is Australia) and no artist can get really rich off some local success.
Sounds like she is a bit of a shill for the music industry to have a cry about downloading.
