Most of the organisms in the animal kingdom that are evolved enough to have some ability to function on an autonomous level, do indeed form a primitive type of heirarchy. It is very natural for man, being a member of the animal kingdom, to do the same. And yes, I feel insecure sometimes, that is a universal trait of us Homo Sapiens, having a frontal lobe and all.:)
