Haute Tension is pretty, but completely empty. I hate it.
Black Christmas is best viewed as a historical document. A film that inspired so many imitators, but has not aged well. It has a few great elements and the last 15 minutes are excellent, but the rest is rather flat, despite the inventiveness of the filmmaking. This is one case where the imitators have done it better.
As for consensus? Never happen around here, there's always a bunch of haters no matter how brilliant a film may be. Notice how OMCDave bashes The Descent or BASSI hates A Clockwork Orange it goes on and on.
Hope you enjoy them, that's all that really matters, right? I'd absolutely rent before buying...still don't understand why anyone buys blind.
