I think Saw's in kind of an awkward position when it comes to getting classic status. It's too mainstream to be put in the same category as Driller Killer or its ilk, but on the other hand, it's a bit too focused on the violence to be put in the same category as other classics. In a few years, when the debate comes up whether the Saw films are going to belong to the ages, the struggle for its reputation is going to be hard fought, particularly if the sequels come out so rapidly. It will be hard arguing for the integrity of the series when Saw 12 is still in theaters. That said, I really dig the first Saw.
