Even without the "nigger insults" the situation is still horrible. What Richards did was to violently verbally abuse a selected people over and over again. His rage was unbelievable. I honestly believe that if they had been closer he'd have jumped into the crowd and attempted murder. That's how dangerously angry he was.

And then the entire slew of troubling racism comes into play.

And watching that Letterman show clip I do not for one second believe he was apologizing for anything except to save his so called "ego". He doesn't give a flying fuck about the "Afro-Americans" he offended, he just wants to be "liked" again.
