Thing is, the "comedy" aspect of BTM is extremely clever and witty, and it has absolutely nothing to do with easy jokes. ******* SMALL SPOILERS AHEAD:
It is the surreal aspect of making a documentary on a serial killer, interviewing him to see that he is a rather charming and ordinary looking fellow, seing how he prepares his grand coup and chooses his victims and hearing about his insight on the "business" that makes this movie funny and very special. Plus, I don't think I have ever seen a movie that is able to turn the tables as efficiently as this one. Leslie might be a witty fellow, but as soon as he puts on his mask and goes out for his big night, the movie becomes deadly serious just as a the best slasher flick from the 80's were.

I'm telling you all : this one's not to be missed. It won the best horror movie award at the Fantasia Festival last summer, finishing ahead of The Descent, and deserved it, even though The Descent is one of my favorite movies of these last few years. Behind the Mask is a cult movie in the making...
