Cannibal Holocaust: Again.

I've talked with a few of you before about Cannibal Holocaust and the fact that a thread about it pops up here once a month. It seemed like the ultimate forbidden movie to me when I first started really collecting horror & studying the genre. Of course, after hanging out with the horror crowd for years, we all know it, we've all seen it. It definately doesn't hold the mistique, if you will, that I (and possibly "we") thought it did.

Bear with me here, I'm not quite sure where this is going yet.

I found myself ordering it last night. I've already seen it once, and I'm pretty sure that once I get it I'll watch it once more and then not touch it for years. Maybe even never watch it again. So the question I put to myself is: why? Why did I just spend around $16 for a movie I KNOW I will probably rarely, if ever, watch. I could have ordered brilliant films with that money. Eyes Without A Face, M, the list could go on forever. I could have spent it on a horror comedy that would get several views a year; the kind that you pop in for background noise when your mates come over for brews.

Remembering the one time I viewed it, I recall it being a decent film. Well put together with good FX. I can't, however, see (unless your trying to achieve a certain image) anyone claiming this to be a film that they love watching all of the time.

I don't even know that I'd call it essential to any horror collection. For some strange reason, I just felt like I needed to have it.

I guess what I'm asking for is a discussion on two things:
1.) Aside from the gore/exploitation/infamy factor, how do you honestly feel about Cannibal Holocaust as a movie?

2.) Do you add movies to your collection just because you feel they need to be there, or do you strictly just buy movies you know you'll view several times?
