Session 9
The acting is solid (not amazing or anything), and it was nice to see two CSI-series actors in the same movie. The camera work was pretty inventive too; I expecially liked the handheld work they did during the tunnel scenes. Gave a realism to the scenes, and made them quite frightening. When the figure showed up in the first scene with Hank I nearly shit myself. The part that interested me the most was the session tapes, they were very well done and I'm interested in those types of things, so yeah. I expected something different from this. I didn't know it was pure Psychological horror, similiar to The Shining. I thought it was more... of a ghost story. I was expecting supernatural moments, or more haunting scenes. Didn't get those. The film moves really slowly, but that sets up the atmosphere - not my favourite type of atmosphere (that being the rainy, night time setting) but for what it was - it worked. The sets were amazing, and I heard it was filmed in an actual insitute - making it even more eerie, expecially those underground scenes. Brr. The ending was good, and everything made sense... but it lacked that "woah" factor that most twists are paired with. Different type of film, I guess. I liked it... not one of my favourites, but a good film nontheless. It's average for me.
