damn - this is tough as i constantly shift to a new set of albums (my ipod remains completely the same for months at a time then i dump everything and pick up brand new stuff) - but here's my current feeling
1) AC/DC - Back in Black (indeed, I could do the whole list with AC//DC - its hard not to also but AC/DC LIVE, which is my 'work-out' album on the old ipod)
2) Gorillaz - Gorillaz (i love the new one - Demon Days - but the first album is still my favorite chill-out in the background cd.)
3) White Stripes - Elephant (I so did not want to like this album as it was being insanely hyped in London - with posters covering the tube - but then my girlfriend at the time bought it for me and I loved it)
4) Pixies - Surfer Rosa (a classic old post- punk blast - truly an album i could listen to for weeks at a time without wanting to change it)
5) Michael Gordon - Light is Calling (weird pseudo-classical, experimental stuff - sort of Philip Glass-like; but great to chill out to when you want something without lyrics to get in the way)
6) Radiohead - OK Computer (truly the greatest 'masterpiece' album of the past few decades)
7) Matthew Sweet - Living Things (I'll admit to hating this when I first got it - it seemed so jumbled and mish-mashed - - -but upon listening a few times i realized it was an amazing album that just needed my patience to get into it).
8) Iron Maiden - Live After Death (truly the greatest live album of all time - i absolutely love this whole thing!)
9) REM - Fables of the Reconstruction (classic old REM when Michael Stipe still mumbled everything and the country chords jangled along)
10) Husker Du - Candy Apple Grey (perhaps the least appreciated post- punk band but without Husker Du there would be no Pixies and then no Jane's Addiction and no Nirvana and no Pearl Jam, etc. etc. - these guys were crucial to the history of alternative music - so give some respect to Bob Mould and the crew!)
