Jacob's Ladder (Chose not to rate.)
I may be the only one, but quite honestly... I didn't like it. And I'm fine with that. I can accept the fact that everyone has different tastes. The one thing that bothers me are those on IMDb who bash movies and state blatantly "how can you like this film?" I may have just clued-in... but yeah, everyone has a different taste, and as hard as we may try - we can't change that.
I've heard a lot of things about this movie in my past, and it always came up in reccomendations, with statements of being "chilling, frightening, eerie, and smart". I really didn't find it fit any of these. It wasn't scary at all, I didn't find any of the scenes "shocking" or too rememorable. The eerie aura about it was created by making Jacob feel alone, by pitting him alone in scenes, or by using music and sound effects (or the lack there of). Also - making other characters seem dark and gloomy by using a background effect that was quite cheasy. The effects, admittedly filmed as-is, didn't impress. At one point, where crows fly up, I could see a string or two. Perhaps it was just something on the film, but it just didn't look real.
The one scene I did like was the gourny wheeling in the hospital. Specifically the area in which body parts are strung admist the flooring - and the gourny wheels over them. Of course, they acted like rubber which sort of ruined the mood. The crazy people in the cages before it could have been more heavy, as well.
The whole reveal about the drug wasn't any twist, or anything really exciting. It was sort of "Oh, alright...". Seemed... meh. Just there. The ending was just a big smack in the face, and not a good hardcore-sex slap, but one a big old fat and nasty dragqueen would give you for assuming you are looking at him in a suggestive matter. I've began to despise, with all my heart, this type of ending.
As for "smart"... I didn't see it. Perhaps I was just clueless and missed it, or am too idiotic to figure it out. Or maybe even, people are creating a message that really isn't there. I don't know, I haven't read any speculations on IMDb - and may just have to after I've written this and have been yelled at a few times.
It was a fairly boring movie, that felt longer then it's runtime, and only had a few good scenes. Not my type of movie. Please don't flame me saying I'm just a teen who likes big explosions and trash movies.... because I'm not. Just because I have a different taste then you, doesn't mean I any inferior. I won't change my opinion of this film just to "fit in". Sorry.
Oh, and I read the quotes on IMDb before watching it, and they felt like they should be acted out differently then what they were in the movies. More emotion should have been put in to the "I'm alive" scene, I thought. I think my expections were a tad too high here...
