I find the whole Premutos and Ittenbach thing almost unwatchable, for the following reasons:-
His films have that 'heavy metal fan' touch to them; that is to say the makers are clearly bang into what they think is The Dark Side - all long hair, growly attitude and anti-establishment values which time after time seems to amount to little more than cliched characters and situations with as much fear and intrigue as an Iron Maiden album cover.
Fallen angels... Satan... The Living Dead... if tackled on the cheap by mere fanboys, these subjects have a tendency to present themselves in a bland fashion simply unredeemable by the requisite OTT gore effects thought necessary to shock and awe.
After the dull scripts, there is the acting element - all of which in Ittenbach's films is dire. Put it down to bad dubbing in some of them, but the overall effect is still brain-numbingly tedious. Something about perky, theatrical American voices placed over German mouthings does not seem to work one bit.
Premutos would appeal most to younger and viewers unfamiliar with more raw, purposeful exploitation - no offence to any old gits or fans of heavy metal, mind.
Jorg Buttgereit - now here is a German who could make quality, original films. In his own language, with no colourful gimmicks.
