Just like FM2 said, it was sorta violent, and with the corpses and whatnot, but the overall tone and language was kept down and the only really gross part was the face ripping scene. And Amityville 3D was just about as tame. They probably would've firmly gotten the PG-13 rating had it been around back then. I could understand those two movies getting the R rating if the language, violence and gore effects would've been much higher.
