Personally, the remake of Amityville Horror was seriously needed. No joke. If anything, the only thing I could possibly see people liking in the original was a feeling of nostalgia. It was utter shit, IMO. The remake was much better, and followed the original story much closer. The Amityville remake added so much to the original film, because it was following the book rather then "a remake of the 70's movie". I loved it.
Yeah, today is the time of remakes.
The Fog, Amityville Horror, When a Stranger Calls, House of Wax, The Crazies, Dark Water, The Grudge, The Ring, Pulse, Dawn of the Dead, The Evil Dead, The Eye, The Fly, The Shining, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Thing, The Hills Have Eyes.
Personally, I think it's good. Updates a film, even though it may be worse, but opens it up to a newer audience. If someone is dissatisfied, go and see the original. Viewers of the remake might do the very same, or might have not even known it was a remake. Stop bitching about remakes, because it doesn't ruin the original = as it is not replaced. There is just a new version. Similiar to all those fables and fairy tales. How many versions of those are there? Start bitching about that :p
