Ever have someone tell you "oh, it's not so bad in the grand scheme of things"? Did it ever put things into perspective, and help you get over your problem? If so, you suck.
Personally, I don't care about the grand scheme of things, I don't care about the big picture, or any of that other crap that's supposed to make my problem seem insignificant in lieu of helping. I don't wanna sound self-centered or anything...actually, fuck you, I do wanna sound self-centered.
I don't care about all the starving people in Africa, I don't care about the poor people here, I don't care about some chick in a trailer getting slapped around by her unemployed fat husband, I don't care about you or YOUR problems. I care about me. So how is the fact that a bunch of people I'll never meet and don't care about have it worse than I do supposed to make ME feel better?
Not to say people who don't have real problems (like anorexia) shouldn't suck it up and get over it. But if some asshole cuts me off on 367 with the narrow-ass lanes thanks to all the construction that won't be done for at least 4 years, and I'm pissed about it, saying "oh, well in the long run does it REALLY matter?" or "are you going to care about it 3 days from now?" No, I probably won't care in 3 days, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm pissed off NOW!
I'm not saying that me having fat ear lobes or my girlfriend breaking up with me or the asshole on 367 are big problems. In this case, they aren't even REAL problems, they're hypothetical, but fuck you, you know what I mean. No, they're not that big in the grand scheme of things, no, I won't care about them 2 hours, 3 days, or 5 months from now. And if someone's saying that these things are, *sob* the end of the world ("Oh, no, my girlfriend dumped me! *SUICIDED!!!*"), then telling them how little it really matters is justified. But if I'm reacting in a reasonable fashion to shit I'm dealing with, then don't come to me with that shit about the grand scheme of things or saying how there are kids in Etheopia who have it way worse than I do, or how there are poor people in whatever-the-fuck city who have to live on the street. Fuck them, and fuck you, too.
