Yes, it's true: When people in Los Angeles complain about cold weather, they usually sound like pussies because the weather they are describing is much warmer than the cold weather most people have to deal with. Of course, to them, 40 or 50 degrees F IS cold! But we're still all wimps anyhow.

What surprises me is when I travel out of Los Angeles to some higher area in the wintertime, not even into the "mountains," technically, but just the higher-altitude desert. In the winter, many of these areas are just crawling with snow! I've been driving maybe for an hour away from a place that's toasty warm and suddenly, SHWING! Snow everywhere!

Funny thing though: Whenever I get into an area that's actually, literally freezing and covered in snow, the temperature seems much more tolerable to me than when it is just chilly at home. I've noticed this happening time and time again when I travel to a snowy area.
