By the way, a lot of people have wondered how they did that scene in "A Christmas Story"-- for years I thought they really did it for real! And poured warm water on the pole to loosen the tongue. But, they didn't:
They made a special pole which was rigged up with a suction device, like a vacuum cleaner. When they wanted to loosen the tongue, they just turned it off. Simple!! But so nicely done it had me guessing for a long time.
