You have a point there, bwind22. Appropriately, take Castaneda as an example. You don't need to read all his books to learn about an entirely different plane of existence. Beings existing in a world that we cannot perceive ordinarily. Our own perception of ourselves as mere flesh and spirit is overturned. And we question the validity of such claims.

The problem is that the experience is subjective. If I chewed on peyote, my experience would be altogether different from what he writes about. But the bottom line is, how do we know whether or not the experience is real?

There is also the issue of the person who experiences. The capacity to interpret, understand, and draw something profound and of value from the experience lies inside him/her.

My point merely being that if indeed our existence ends with death, then what is there to do but "live it up"? That's one way to look at it. To hell with everything, I'm just going to die anyway. So, I'll do as I please while I'm at it.

Once again, it's subjective. You decide what you do with your life. You can live it up, or you can create some meaning by choosing a path that has a heart.

If while hiking up a mountain, I'm tying my shoelaces and a boulder happens along to end my existence...I'm aware that I tied my laces deliberately, elegantly. The best way that I could.

Not the "elevated" analogy, I know. But it suffices in my opinion.
