My male rat, who is the youngest of the "big" rats, is still rather small, gets out of cages...etc, so since I didn't want him running around the room unsupervised, I threw him into the guinea-pigs cage, located on my balcony, to live until he grows a little bigger.
So, turns out he can get out of THAT cage too. But whatever, he's on my balcony so he's not going anywhere, right? But he went missing...and we just found him.
He'd actually made a tunnel system underneath a lavender plant we have growing out there in a large pot. The rat was living in the plant.
Weird.

That reminds me of a story one of the DTR guys (kinda like a machanic for photo machines) told me at work. He got a call out to one of the stores in our district because the film processor wasn't mixing chemistry. When he opened the machine up to check the sensors he found that a big ol' rat had made a nest inside of the machine on top of the nozzles. It drug paper, and all sorts of random things inside of the machine to make it...I'm surprised it was alive when he found it.
