My cat Phantom does something similar...there's a wirescreen door on my front balcony, and it's usually host to an assortment of insects on the outside.
He'll sit there watching them, and for some reason he'll sit, standing up (if that makes any sense at all) watching them, in a prairie dog kinda pose. If a stray moth happens to get inside, he'll follow it around, and start crying if it goes to the roof.

Another one...have you guys ever heard rat purring? I think the actual term for it is "fluxing", but there's two things they do when they're happy and content, they grind their teeth, then they kind of...intake air...? when they do that they sound kinda like mini Hannibals.
