During the manufacturing process when the soda is transmitted to the bottle (or can), flakes of metal from the machines gets into the bottles (or cans). The chemical mixture in the soda, reacting with the chemicals in the metal flakes, mixes. This not only deteriorates the metal, but causes tiny bubbles.
