Part 3 did have a good sense of humour but it was Freddy's demise into in becomming a comical parody of the menacing character of the first two films. I'd say Wes Craven's New Nightmare because it saw Freddy's return to being the dark menacing character he once was...... must remember to watch it again sometime soon.

I agree that New Nightmare is the better film; I like them both quite a bit. In fact, other than the first one of course, I think they are both by far the best of the series. But New Nightmare has my vote, because I agree with your point, it took Freddy back to a place, characterwise, he should have remained.
