Hmm- I feel a bit out of place responding to Haunted after the whole "Feminist B..." side-conversation but . . .

First, how does stating my opinion (that critics of the film are wrong) condescend to you (or anyone else). I even acknowledged that all are entitled to their opinion (a fact so obvious its not even really worth stating) but offered what I felt was the main thrust of the film - i.e., my opinion.

Second, I'd suggest that if you don't want politics but just gore and thrills (and good acting) then the LAST place you'd go is a Romero film - he has ALWAYS focused more on the political subtext than either gore or scares. (I think people confuse Romero with some of his imitators at times). Dawn of the Dead is incredibly long and, in many ways, boring - tedious. The eventual climactic slaughter is played, largely, for laughs and the whole film subverts the usual conventions of the genre.

So - I hope stating my opinion (and god forbid using full sentences and words like "subvert") doesn't seem too condescending. At the end of the day, you can love, hate, or poop on any film you want. I, for one, come to this forum to *discuss* films with other folks. Disagree with me, please, but don't accuse me of being obnoxious or condescending (at least until you meet me in person and see my looking down my nose at you).

Damnit,
ZERO
