Lol, its a hard thing to get straight at first but once you get it it isnt that bad. ok here is how it goes:

In italy, Dawn of the Dead (78 that is ;) ) is known as Zombi. This is because Dario Argento Co Produced the film with Romero and alot of the funding was from Argento (he actualy flew romero to italy and payedfrom his own pocket for him (romero) and his wife to stay there while romero wrote the film) and apparently part of the deal was that argento would be alowed to cut and release his own version of the movie to be released in italy. And instead of calling it dawn of the dead, he titled it "zombi". This version of the movie has a different sound track, done by Goblin (some of their stuff is in the romero us version) and a running time of 117 min. to make it more action packed.

now here is where most get confused. In 1979 Lucio Fulci (R.I.P.) started to make a zombie film. Which in italy came out as Zombi 2 (most likly to help make money by saying its a sequl/followup) but in america it is known as "Zombie". but in actualaty "zombi" (dotd) has really got nothing to do with Zombie (zombi 2)

now zombi 3 is just the 3rd in the series ,zombi4 is the fourth and zombi 5 is the 5th.

the official order goes as follows in american titles:

Dawn of the Dead
Zombie
Zombi3
zombi4
zombi5

and when you look at the order in their us titles you can see why it is so confusing. because it seems like there is no part 2 and that dawn of the dead would have no place in the series

hope this helps:D
