At least offer them a quick death, doesn't matter if they'd get up or not...I'd just put them out of their misery.
I'd also burn the body.
It's not about ethics really...in a situation like that, you'd HAVE to adopt a certain logic, in order to survive, and keep those REMAINING around you alive. Just like in a war I suppose, to keep yourself a step ahead, it might cost you a lil' bit of your soul.
