Yeh I see what you mean. I really like a lot of films from the 70s because the tones look totally sleazy and dirty. I recently saw the Tobe Hooper film Eaten Alive and a couple of the scenes with Robert Englund were really fucked up particularly because of the tone and colour (especially the scene with him being particularly forcefull with a prostitiute). I really like the look of "low quality" film it just gives the film a more gritty look. But like people have already said a film needs to do more than look good.
