Must be what canadians get for having 10 months of winter. Comes from living so close to the north pole :D
Seriously, though i can relate. Working out on a farm, after the first day, my ears got so badly burned they looked like overcooked bacon and you could SMELL them.... I wore a hat, bandana and sunscreen for the rest of the summer.
