Its a pity Neil Young's sick :( hopefully he'll pull thru ok. I was bummed out enough about Johhny Cash passing away let alone my favorite singer songwriter Neil biting the bullet. I didn't know his father was an author, what kinda stuff does he write? He seemed pretty cool on the Jim Jarmuch documentry Year of the Horse (I really dug how he thought the band was getting better and better cause not many people agree with me on that). Yeh I was reading an article somewhere that those Soul Asylum albums were kick ass I'll have to give them a day in court, its a pity when bands start off amazing and turn into a dull, run of mill, mainstream piece of shit. Speaking of old indie bands did you ever get into any of the old New Zealand bands like The Clean, Tall Dwarves, 3Ds and HDU (Basically what is known as the "Flying Nun" sound), ect? There from my hometown of Dunedin and have seemed to be quite influentual on the overseas indie scene. Pavement and Sebadoh in particular were really into them and sometimes cover their songs. Steve Albini (Big Black, Shellac, producer of Nirvana's In Utero) has taken HDU under his wing in New York. I think that's the loudest gig I've ever been to ear shattering turn your body to jelly kinda shit! It's strange a band this good is barley recognised in their own country and gets more accailm overseas  you'd think it'd be the opposite. But I'll keep an eye out for some of it on LP and maybe we can do a trade or something because I imagine a lot of that stuff would be hard to find on vinyl over there. I never used to like Husker Du till I got a SST compilation called The Blasting Concept which had a song off their Metal Circus EP..... the song kicked my ass and I've been a die hard fan since.

a huge bummer about neil .. i hope he pulls through.
His dad wrote a lot of sports related stuff .. including hocky stories for kids ..
i dont know the NZ indie bands you mentioned but i do have 3 pavement CDs. on one of them i heard something that reminded me of old Van De Graff Generator so i always wondered if they were an influence.too.
soul asylum seemed to take a turn for the worse when the lead singer hooked up with winona ryder .. mind you - there are still a few good tracks on The Horses They Road In On ... even Grave Diggers Union ... not all of it is mainstream ...thank god
