Some remakes can be great. I again point to the Body Snatcher movies, which thus far have been somewhat of a generational thing. They're due for a new one pretty soon.
And as for the classics, it's not like they didn't do all kinds of sequels back in the day. Killing the genre my ass. Shitty movies are what's killing the genre. Not sequels or studios or big evil money-hungry Hollywood. People are making shitty movies. People are especially making shitty horror movies. Thus, shitty horror movies are killing the genre, sequel or not.
