I've probably posted enough reasons that the Exorcist is the best horror movie of all time on this site to fill a doctorate thesis paper.
However, I can understand how people in the younger crowd (let's say 0 to 20 years) may think it's a bit passe. I contribute this to children today being raised by A.D.D.-geared television and movies. Not only that, but I feel that the impact of the movie is diluted by its terrible sequels ("part three is ok! blah blah blah") and by other movies that try and cash in on the "look out or that big bad ol debbil is gonna git ya" thing.
And yes, I've read the book. It's good, but not "infinatly" better than the film.
