Ah, the infamous, I Spit On Your Grave. Depending on your point of view it's considered either the best or the worst of the "Rape/Revenge" films.

A lot of critics have condemned it for being nothing but brutal exploitation, but a surprising number of feminist critics have supported it. (Carol Glover does a fantastic analysis of it in her obtuse but fascinating book on feminism in horror films, Men, Women, and Chainsaws.)

It's tough to watch to be sure, but I think there's a lot going on besides just brutality, albeit in a an unrealistic and crude way. There are little touches like the retarded man's inability to get an erection, the blame game each man plays right before they get killed, and the lead woman going to a church and praying before exacting her revenge. These aspects elevate it to something a little higher, if you're in an intellectual frame of mind when you watch it.

I recommend watch it with a group of equal number men and women. The conversation after can get pretty intense.

Oh, and mindless trivia: Camilla Keaton, who plays the female lead is Buster Keaton's grand-niece.
