the mp3 thing drove me mad too ..

Established bands make money from concerts.
downloading mp3s generates interest for the band and make people want to see the concerts.

bands starting out would be tickled pink if people if people downloaded and played their MP3s .. its free advertising - exposure.

the record companies are the ones that lose when mp3s are downloaded .. the guys at the top of the heap.

Most people i know will still but the CD if they really like a band.

I'd like to see the stats because i think MP3s accessability have rejuvinated interest in music the same way that video got people back in the theatre (despite a small lull when it looked like it would kill the theatre going experience and make it obsolete)

It proved to have the opposite effect.

i'd love to see what the real losses are ... and not just what is being given to the press.
