The Creature Trilogy
Just finished watching the "Creature(from the Black Lagoon)" trilogy the other day.
The major thing that stuck out was how SAD the creature's story is. 9 times out of 10 he kills in SELF DEFENSE! These so-called scientists are horrible! It's crazy.
These should have been the titles of the movies:
"Scientists Invade the Black Lagoon"
"Revenge of the Scientists"
and
"The Scientists Walk Among Us"
Seriously. They drag this poor guy from his home, torture him, then turn him into a freak. And they're surprised when he fights back? You can really see the lack of caring/understanding of the environment in these movies. I guess the attitude in the fifties was "Nature? Who needs it?" At one point in the third movie a scientist's wife is on the deck of a boat shooting sharks with a rifle for fun! Instead of wanting to protect the creature and preserve his environment all they want to do is capture him "dead or alive" so they can exploit him. It's sad. Poor guy.
Great movies though. The Creature(or Gillman) is still one of my all-time-favorite-monsters.:) Even though the scientists are the REAL monsters in these movies.
