Hinting at a little grief over the recent death of Princess Diana, a friend retorted with a joke.
This kind of response has always seemed more healthy to me than a lot of thoughtful head-shaking - I personally like to indulge in a bit of both, though.
Sensitive jokes will always offend many, but I guess it's what you know in your own head that really counts and not your exterior (though bear in mind your exterior is how others judge you) - I feel for victims on TV... but then I'm afraid it gets switched over to the snooker or something these days.
As you say, the relentless coverage of the tsunami disaster means it will be for a long time in the public conciousness - whether wanted or not - and will untimately lead to more contributions (irritating though the methods are becoming - I've given my bit).
