If not letting a child do whatever they want is considered sheltering, then so be it. If there are rules and structure, they will have more respect and trust in you. Consistancy is the key to that. I absolutely agree with you regarding minors (and I don't even know how old this Vamp dude is anyway...but I was assuming that he was at least 18). In fact...there is no way in hell that minors should be able to even access this forum. There should be some kind of age verification or something.
And no...I don't think you would raise your girls under a rock so to speak...I was just trying to say that no matter how you raise your kid(s), in a lot of cases they are just going to do what they want anyway. But, no, I am not implying that you shouldn't try to regulate what they are exposed to. But my original statement is a moot point if Vamp is under 18, because in my opinion...he shouldn't be able to have access to this forum in the first place.
