i dont know if it was the first ... maybe the 1st i saw in a theatre .. but it was the british horror anthology Tales From the Crypt (1972) which would put me at 11 years old.
it scared the living shit out of me. I actually told my friend i had to go to the bathroom and stayed in the lobby (for the blind man and the walls full of razorblades sequence.)
I still remember how this movie nearly gave me a heart attack.
I own it now ... i had to see it again years later and although i've seen hundreds worse (if i saw it now for the 1st time it would be laughable) but it still stirs that old feeling.
I remember when i stopped being afraid .. we went to an all night drive in .. a horror marathon that included Dawn of the Dead and The Prowler, the origional TCM, among others.
The first movie scared me, the second not so much ... and by the last movie i was having a laugh. I was probably 18 or 19 at that time.
