Format is not neccesary insert the windows xp CD and do a repair from that and it will be fine.

You could also do a step-by-step confirmation on boot up and see what is causing the problem then in dos you can edit the necessary file to skip what is causing the problem

But I would advise a repair from the windows xp cd if you want to know how to do a repair let me know and I will email you the instructions.

If the repair doe not work I have got a tool to test memory cos that would be my next step
