not to play the devils advocate but it's not always the case with music either..
Bands that 'make it' often gain creative control later on and are able to make the music the way they intended.
Also many bands mature ... their earlier works are more raw but their less skilled.
Especially bands you folowed from the beginnings .. they'll put a couple of albums out independantly, then via a studio and then if their lucky they can grow big enough to produce themselves.
The biggest difference you usually see with a band is when you see them live before they are signed .. they are full of energy .. they're hungry... they're rocking, and then all of that gets hammered right out of them in the studio.
all of this has fuck all to do with sequels but i'm senile and my mind wanders.
