Teen Convicted Of Shooting Pregnant Girlfriend At Palm Desert Abortion Clinic

Indio, California- A Riverside County jury has convicted a 17-year-old boy for shooting his pregnant girlfriend inside a Palm Desert abortion clinic.

Jeffrey Cameron Fitzhenry faces life in prison after being found guilty yesterday of attempted murder. He shot the 16-year-old girl in the neck in April, leaving her a quadriplegic and her fetus was declared dead several days later.

During trial, the girl testified that Fitzhenry made repeated threats, telling her: "If you take something of mine, I'll take something of yours." She said she never thought he would act on those threats.

Defense attorney Robert Dunn argued that Fitzhenry shot the girl in the heat of passion and should get a lesser charge of attempted voluntary manslaughter.

The jury sided with prosecutors, who argued Fitzhenry made a "cold, calculated judgment" when he took a loaded gun to the clinic "with the intent to commit murder."

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 6th.
