Hospital Worker Dies After Being Burned

A female worker at Regions Hospital, in St Paul, somehow got stuck inside a steaming hot sanitizer used to sterilize large equipment.

The steam inside the room severely burned the woman and late Friday afternoon, she died from her burns.

The piece of equipment works very much like your home dishwasher, when you close the door, scalding hot water shoots out of jets.

In this case, those jets sanitize items like gurneys and wheelchairs.

Thursday morning she was cleaning a medical cart and she walked into the washer, but it’s not known how she came to be in the room when the machine turned on.

By the time she was found, she had suffered the burns that eventually killed her.

OSHA has been on site at Regions since Thursday.

They are investigating how this happened, the training the woman received, and the set-up of the room.
