I haven't read any of the comics, so I can't compare it to the fiction. But, when I saw it in theaters, I was mildly entertained. I particularly enjoyed the climactic scenes with the huge tentacles hanging from the sky, and that nasty monster Hellboy had to fight at the end. Those elements were very Lovecraftian (which is always a plus for me), and quite well done. But I was rather disappointed that there was only one monster Hellboy had to fight over and over again (except for the final one). It became repetitive. Plus, (and this is the bane of all superhero films), there was very little suspense at all. You know Hellboy and his pals are going to come out okay in the end ... and the ride to this conclusion wasn't strong enough to keep me very interested.

I rate it a 6.
