so the extra plot gives all those pointless characters some meaning, and makes it so you can't see the deaths coming a mile away? Okay, I'll give you the character one, and maybe the added plot would make one not see one or two of the deaths coming (the dog is the biggest example), but you'll have to explain how it'd make them less contrived.
