I'm writing my dissertation about why certain types of horror are popular at certain times... it's kinda interesting to think about the 70s-80s slasher flicks, opposed to the stuff that's coming out now- it's all zombies and big disaster type of stuff coming out at the mo. (Sept 11th, terrorist attacks, genetic science, etc... being veeeery important issues in the media at the mo) The media affects the types of horrors coming out, because overall an element of realism helps a film to be scary, as people can identify with it and make the fear their own.
Oddness... it's starnge, I managed to watch 'Threads' (old BBC thing from late 70s) the other day, it's still scary because it's incredibly relevant now...
just a few rambling thoughts...
