remember watching a program on IFC called "The American Nightmare" directed by Adam Simon. It was a documentary sort of show that they aired around Halloween a couple years back. In the program they interviewed many different people including Romero, Cronenberg, Craven, Carpenter, Savini, Tobe Hooper and an assortment of critics and professors.... anyhoo, Hooper stated that he got the idea for TCM (aside from Ed Gein's story) while he was in the hardware department of a store during the Christmas season; there were tons of people (as there usually is that time of year) and he wondered what would be the fastest way to get out of the store... then he noticed the chainsaws. Voila, there was (part of) the inspiration for one of the most controversial horror movies ever made.
Ive seen this too, and its on the DVD if you guys really want the truth just buy the original in the collectors dvd and watch the commentary. They talk about how everyone insist that its real, how people have told Tobe Hooper that they're uncle or whoever shared a cell with the real leather face. They think its funny. [Not tryin to shit on you hear austin, this is mainly for the newbs who INSIST its real and make up lies about it like knowing the members.Ur cool tho austin so no hard fealins bringin up an old thread]AND HONESTLY GUYS IF YOU PAY CLOSE ENOUGHT ATTENTION TO THE INTRO THAT SAYS ITS REAL! IT SAYS THE MURDERS TOOK PLACE IN 1973, THE EXACT YEAR THE MOVIE DEBUTED MEANING THEY MADE MOST OF IT IN 71 ,72, THEY MAKE THAT POINT IN THE COMENTARY TOO. just watch it guys itll answer your questions and its funny as shit too. Gunnar Henson owns!
