this is a dificult one for me, simply because, when i was a kid, video players were a luxury home item, my dad did get us one eventually, it was the size of a garden shed and clunked like hell.
Films on tapes were also expensive and me not being old enough at the time to buy any decent horror, went without new films, and my parents wouldnt let us watch newish horror.
My dad did use to tape some of the old horror for us though, Boris Carloff, Peter Cushing and lots of the Hammer Horror stuff.
I reckon my first experience with real and proper horror, was when my older bro taped American Werewolf in london, we hid the tape and watched it when the parents went out..... some of it shit the life out of me lol
