Even if the original was a made for TV mini series that technically was a poor adaptation of a excellent book. I would tell you this, read the book, then rewatch the miniseries, then make judgment's about the new one.

Your generalizing a much broader sub genre of horror (the remake) most movies are "remakes" with enough tweaks to make you forget there was an original.
