Why no new slashers?

I can't help but wonder why there haven't been any new slashers lately. Sure you've got Freddy, Jason, Chucky, Pinhead, etc. but there are really no newer ones at least none that have any substance. Sure you've got a few cheap movies with half ass slashers but there really hasn't been any good ones in a long time. The last good one that comes to mind is the killers in scream. I can only hope the upcoming movie Saw is good enough to galvanize the slasher genre but judging from the previews it looks lacking.

That's like trying to make a better bread box, it's just stupid. Why remake something when the originial was already so good? Why risk tainting it? I really wish Hollywood would come out of this whole remake phase. It's like the writers are too lazy to come up with some new material.

well i hate it when they come out with the remake and the directors like im such a huge fan of the original. Wel guess what if you really were you should know remaking it is like killing it and its disrespectful

Easy, they pay some hack to "Rework" the original script. they pay him shit, and get a nobody director to film it, and pad the old proactical effects with cheaper cgi, then toss it out in theaters.

Hardcore fans go hoping for something decent. people who have HEARD of the classics go because now they want to be "hardcore" fans.... The movie company makes a bunch of money off of shit that they didnt put any work into, so they continue.

It's like pavlov's dogs. if you give a dog a cookie every time he shits on the rug, why would he stop?

that 2nd paragraph is so damn true

In hollywood I believe the day of slashers are gone... but not forgotten, hopefully some director will come along and make some killer slashers....
