Another philosophical question..

Theoretical scenario-

The world is coming to an end. There is a ravenous disease spreading around the world that kills within days of infection. There is something special about your family's DNA. It contains the cure, but the cure can't be duplicated. In order to create enough of the cure to cure the world, or what's left of it, they would need to pulverize everyone in your family, literally liquifying them. And you, being the eldest of the family, have to watch every person in your family die a horribly painful death. But, they give you the choice of saving you and your family, or sacrificing them for the good of the world. Essentially, you have two choices:

1. Watch every single member of your family die a slow, painful death. Then, you would have to die that same death yourself, in order to save the world.

2. Refuse to let it happen, and know that you were responsible for killing the ENTIRE world.

What would you do?

I would refuse. If we have to resort to horrible, painful murder in order to save humankind ... then humankind doesn't deserve to be saved.

As Dr Nick Riviera would say:

"Bye, everybody!"

Been watching Swordfish Ege? Nice Avatar, btw ;)

Thanks. Stole it from you.

Actually, I haven't seen Swordfish in a long time. I just remember there actually being some authentic Unix prompt screens in the movie, which made me giggle.

My thoughts exactly.

No, I didn't steal the question from anywhere, either, I came up with it myself. :)

Edit: Not that you were implying that I stole it...

I would refuse. I would watch all of mankind suffer and die. With a grin I would watch, and laugh. Mankind don't deserve the live. They deserve to perish in the mud-ball of a world they've created.

As it stands, my immediate family is just about the only people i like anyway....

No offense to the good people here :)

...But, WE would still live...right?...And then the entire world would be OURS?...Ummm...Was there a question here?

lol

I realize many of you take this as a joke, but put some serious thought into it: if you don't sacrifice everything you care about, the entire world will die. If the entire world dies, I hope you know how to farm. Also, that would be the end of humanity, unless you liked having 2 headed children running around (those of you from Kentucky- stay the hell out of this).
